    How the names are made

Names are built from syllables we wrote, with a soft sound (Elaria, Miravale) and a harsh one (Karnmark, Brekholt). Government changes the form: a kingdom might be the Elarmere Crown, an empire the Imperial Varnland, a republic the Free Republic of Elaria. The capital comes from a separate town-name list, so the kingdom and its city do not rhyme by accident.

The arms follow the heraldic rule of tincture: a color goes on a metal and a metal on a color. Gold or silver is paired with red, blue, green, black or purple, never two colors or two metals, and the result includes the old blazon (Azure, a heron rising Or) next to plain English. The mottos are short English phrases we wrote.

    Using the results

    • Use the motto as a design question: what does a kingdom that says Hold the Ford spend its money on?
    • Lock the name and roll the capital and arms until a banner fits the story. Or lock the arms and roll names.
    • Roll five kingdoms and place them on a map in order. Neighbors with similar sounds feel related, which suits a shared history.
    • The government setting only changes the wording of the name. Decide the actual rules of the kingdom yourself.

    Questions

What is the rule of tincture?

A heraldic rule that a color is not placed on a color, and a metal is not placed on a metal. It keeps a banner easy to read at a distance.

What do Or and Argent mean?

Or is gold (or yellow) and Argent is silver (or white). Gules is red, Azure blue, Vert green, Sable black and Purpure purple.

Are the kingdoms from a published setting?

No. A test blocks well-known kingdom names from books, films and games.

Can I use the capital without the kingdom?

Yes. Tick only Capital city. You can also lock a capital you like and roll kingdoms around it.
