Dragon name generator
Dragon names built for a color, a temperament and an age, with an epithet and a domain, so the name tells the players something before the dragon speaks.

What the rules say
The SRD 5.1 lists dragons in ten colors (black, blue, green, red, white, brass, bronze, copper, gold and silver) at four ages: wyrmling, young, adult and ancient. It gives them no names.
Everything else here, including how the names are built, is our own design for your table.
How the names are made
The name comes from three sound families we wrote: scorch (hard stops and rolling r), glint (bright s and l) and gloom (deep o, u and m). Each color leans on one family, so a red and a gold dragon do not sound alike, and age sets the length. A wyrmling gets a short name, an ancient dragon a long one.
The epithet joins a color word to a temperament word, such as Ember-Crowned for a regal red or Tar-Whisper for a cunning black. The title pairs an age-based rank (Hatchling, Raider, Warden, Elder Wyrm) with a place that suits the color. Tick or untick either to get a bare name.
Using the results
- Let the epithet carry the clue. A name like Zargoreth means little to players, but Foam-Anchor tells them the dragon is patient and lives by the water.
- Lock the title and roll names when you already know where the dragon lives. Lock the name and roll titles when you know the dragon but not the legend around it.
- An old dragon deserves a long name that nobody can say the same way twice. Set the age to ancient and let the table argue about the pronunciation.
- Give a young dragon a rival: roll two of the same color and let the epithets disagree about who is Heir to what.
Questions
Does the color change the stats?
No. The generator makes names only. Color affects the sound of the name and the words in the epithet and title.
What is the difference between a dragon and a dragonborn name?
Dragon names here are longer and come with an epithet and a domain, because a dragon is a character the players meet. The dragonborn generator makes a person name with a clan.
Can I get a short name for a baby dragon?
Set the age to wyrmling. The names are two pieces long, and the title uses ranks like Hatchling and Scion.
How do I say these names?
Each result has a suggested pronunciation with the stressed syllable in capitals. Dragon names are invented, so it is a suggestion, not a standard.
