Drow name generator
Drow names with a house, a station and an epithet, so you can build a whole family, a rival house or an exile in a few taps.
Make drow
What the rules say
The SRD 5.2.1 lists Drow as one of three elf lineages. It says nothing about drow society, houses or titles.
Everything else here, including how the names are built, is our own design for your table.
How the names are made
We built this as its own page, not a setting on the elf generator, because a drow character usually needs more than a first name. Given names use the sharp, dusky sound from our elf tables. On top of that you get a house name (our own syllables, such as Xorvael or Zhelarvael), an epithet like the Velvet Knife, and a title that depends on station.
Station sets the title list. Nobles hold offices like Warden of the Lower Stair, warriors hold ranks like Captain of the Veil Guard, scholars keep archives and maps, and outcasts have no house at all. The society behind these names is our own invention for your table, not lore from any published setting.
Using the results
- Lock the house and roll a few given names to get siblings, cousins and a dull uncle in one go.
- Roll two houses and give them one shared grievance. The epithets already sound like they are keeping score.
- Outcasts make good player characters. Set the station to outcast and the generator drops the house and offers a title with a past.
- Titles are long. Pick one for the character sheet and a short form for the table.
Questions
Why is there a separate drow page?
The elf page can already give a drow-sounding name. This page adds house names, station titles and epithets, which that page does not.
Does the generator use lore from a published setting?
No. The houses, stations and titles are our own, and a test blocks well-known names from published settings.
Can I make a drow with no house?
Yes. Choose the outcast station and the house is dropped, or untick House name.
Are gendered titles used?
No. Titles are neutral so they fit any character. The gender setting only changes the ending of the given name.
