Play Pyramid solitaire

Take away two free cards that add up to 13, or a King on its own, until the pyramid is gone. Tap one card, then its partner. Tap the stock to turn up a new card when you run out of pairs.

How to play on this page

  • Pairs: tap a free card, and every free card that makes 13 with it gets a dashed outline. Tap one to clear both. A free King clears with a single tap.
  • Stock and waste: tap the stock to turn its top card onto the waste. The top waste card can pair with a pyramid card. When the stock is empty and you still have passes, tap the empty stock to turn the waste back over.
  • Hint prefers pairs that open up the pyramid, then suggests turning the stock.
  • Keyboard: arrow keys move between cards, Enter selects and pairs, Escape lets go, Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y undo and redo.

The rules this game follows

  • 28 cards face up in seven rows, each row half covering the one above; the other 24 are the face-down stock.
  • A pyramid card is free when no card overlaps it. The top waste card is free too.
  • Remove two free cards that total 13 (Ace 1, Jack 11, Queen 12) or a free King alone. Suits never matter.
  • Default: three passes through the stock, and clearing the pyramid wins. Both are options: one pass, and clearing every card.

Our Pyramid rules page covers the pass rules in more detail, the odds and the deals you can spot as lost before you start.

Check for a dead deal first

Look at the card on top. Its four possible partners are fixed: the four cards of its partner rank. If all four sit lower in the pyramid, each of them has to leave before the top card is free, so none is left to take it, and the deal cannot be won. When you see that, a new deal saves you ten minutes. Replay this deal and Share this deal work from the deal number shown above the table.

Want a deal you know can be won? We solved deals 1 to 5,000 for every rule setting: the deal checker tells you whether a deal number can be won, or picks a winnable one for you.

Pyramid questions

Why will a card not pair even though the numbers add up?

One of the two is still covered. A pyramid card is free only when both cards overlapping it from the row below are gone; the free cards are the ones that light up when you could use them.

Can the card I just covered on the waste still be used?

Yes, once: right after you turn a stock card, the waste card it landed on can pair with that new card (the two add up to 13). That matches the rule that a waste card "can pair with the next stock card you turn". After any other move it is buried.

How many times can I go through the stock?

Three passes by default (two redeals), as BVS Solitaire plays it. Pick one pass in Game options for the strict traditional game. Tap the empty stock to turn the waste over for the next pass.

Do I have to clear the stock as well?

Not by default: clearing the pyramid wins. The stricter rule, where the stock and waste must go too, is an option.
